Menu for March is Up!

DO NUT forget to get your donut order in. You will be sad if you miss this fine lineup of donuts we have THIS SAT.  We have a  Brioche (yeast) Donut, with Meyer Lemon Glaze with hint of Raspberry. A  Vanilla Cake Donut with Honey Glaze, Cinnamon Sugar and Brioche with Blueberry glaze with a whisper of Lavender. All our donuts are dairy free (DF) and VEGAN donuts are available by PRE ORDER ONLY.

Then two weeks later. . . we will have Zeppole di San Giuseppe! To celebrate St Joseph’s Day. These are brioche donuts, cut in half and filled with pastry cream and Amarena Cherries! We not only will have them on Sat, March 16th, but also on St Joseph’s Day itself, Tues, March 19th. These will be in LIMITED SUPPLY BOTH DAYS. So if you really want them, hop online and preorder. We will make a VEGAN version on SAT ONLY.

What’s New

We will have our Eggplant Parmesan available starting Weds, 2/28.  Customers LOVED it last week. We will have full dairy and dairy free. It comes in a lunch portion with a garnish salad and a slice of sourdough. Or in a dinner portion. We are going to get thru this week of lunch portions, before we offer the dinner portions next week. For one, we have to figure out what is the best packaging for the dinner portion!

Breakfast BAGEL SANDWICHES are back this week. Egg bagel or cream cheese of various sorts, or our yummy egg salad, like pictured below.

Here is the bad news. Chocolate prices have gone up 100%. We ordered chocolate in December and it was $591. We ordered it at the beginning of February and it as $1132 for exact same order!  This is partly a result of crop failure, but mostly a result of greed. Chocolate is mostly sold to middle men, who then sell it to end distributors or candy makers. A crop failure in one area of the world, doesn’t affect chocolate production everywhere, but the middle men play with the market and hike the price, just like they did with Vanilla a few years ago. But their shenanigans only made the Vanilla market crash, because people like us, simply stopped using vanilla generally, and only used it when absolutely necessary. That’s because vanilla went from $100 gallon to $600 a gallon. Who gets hurt? The small farmers in poor areas around the world. In any event, we thought about this problem all month and gave various customers different options we could pursue to see what people thought.  (Mix a cheaper, sweeter chocolate with our dark, use less chocolate, raise prices etc. ) Uniformly, people said they didn’t want us tinkering with our recipes or the chocolate we use. So you will notice that some of our chocolate items have gone up in price. We’ve tried to keep the price raise as small as possible, but given our cost of goods went up 100%, we had to raise the prices at least somewhat, which we did today.

On the good news side, we are working on a catering menu for breakfast and lunch. If you work in an office where there are still people, lol, or are having a party and want catering, please reach out to us so we can send you our catering menu as soon as it is done!

Easter Menu up soon!

I promise, the Easter menu will be up soon. I love this time of year because of all the handblown/handpainted eggs i have (mostly from the Ukraine), that i hang out on forsythia branches. They are exquisite, so make sure you come in and see them. I’ll probably do the changeover from hearts to eggs by the end of this week. Everyone can enjoy them, whether you celebrate Easter or not!
