Preorder from our Menu

Winter is upon us in earnest now. I always have a hard time January though early April, but this year my ennui is more pronounced. I’m sure it is pandemic blues  but knowing that everyone feels a bit the same, doesn’t really help, does it? The other evening I was outside, all bundled up, planting seeds to grow inside, when a friend stopped by and asked what i was doing. Gardening, i said with a smile, my hands and jacket covered in potting soil. Of course you are, he laughed. I do think it is important in these dark cold days, to do things you love. I know January is everyone’s favorite diet month, but i personally never diet in January, as i feel the need to nourish and comfort myself, rather than to go without. So I eat lots of soup and other comfort foods, even for breakfast. We will start making soup again, once i  find a new supplier for organic vegetables. We relied on Russos these past few years. It has taken a lot of effort to find organic product these past many months, as it seems in shorter supply then other things for some reason. What soups would you like to see us make first?

Thanks to everyone who has been participating in our survey re whether you drove or walked/bike/public transport to the bakery. We will continue doing this survey to provide the city with data. So far, the overwhelming evidence is that we couldn’t survive as a business without drivers. Other business owners on Mass Ave are telling me the same thing. Yet the city persists in going full speed ahead on a policy that will decimate the business community.  If you live in Cambridge, please make sure you write to City Council to express your outrage. If you live elsewhere, and want to write too, send me an email at info@violettegf.com and i will send you all the relevant email addresses.

Some of you have asked me what an Old Fashion Donut is (AKA Buttermilk Donut). It’s a cake donut (see photo above), like they have at every famous donut store. The donut your grandmother probably ate.  They are yummy.

Next week we will publish the whole month’s menu again, and i promise i will try not to confuse the weeks next month. Lol.

Sat Special is DONUTSChocolate Glazed, Glazed, and Old Fashioned. Vegan varieties available by PREORDER ONLY. Our donuts are either Diary Free (DF) or Vegan

Bread is Sourdough (Vegan) and Challah (DF), loaves and rolls

Tea Bread is Lemon Poppy.

Pot Pies are generally available in Small and Medium sizes. The medium we consider to be “man size” or a two person meal, if light eaters and having salad etc. Pot pies come in Chicken (always organic free range), Veg, and Vegan. The difference between the Veg and the Vegan is the crust. Vegan crust has no egg and is made with flax seed instead. Our pot pies are otherwise, dairy free.
