What’s Baking, Week of April 26th (Bagel week)

Preorder from our Menu

It’s Bagel week and we have Cinnamon Rolls for our Saturday Special!

We are offering two items for Mother’s Day (in two weeks!) A Mother’s Day Box, which is specially priced just for mom. (It includes a strawberry shortcake, a fresh fruit tart with house lemon curd, chocolate truffles, chocolate covered strawberries, and sugar cookies with pressed flowers. ) And, secondly, Strawberry Sponge Cake (in various sizes). We may, or may not, have the items in the Mother’s Day box available to purchase separately, it depends on what we can manage with a skeleton staff.

We have reached a point, where our staffing is so low that we can’t really operate fully. In the coming weeks we are going to have to drastically shorten both our days of operations and our hours of operations. We will have to cut down on items we can make, and quantities we can make. We know we are not alone, and that many businesses are struggling with lack of employees. I was at both WholeFoods and Trader Joes this past week and the lines were very long and only two checkouts were open at both. I spoke to the managers at both places and they said they too have a critical shortage of help. Not only are there long lines, but they can’t keep shelves stocked. Supply is not really  a problem anymore, its that they can’t order items because they have no one to stock the shelves. Increasingly, the distributors that we buy from can’t get items, because this phenomena goes down the chain, and producers are choosing to sell just to large companies because it is easier to sell to one large chain than to many smaller distributors. Eventually,  a few large businesses will control the entire supply chain, and then they’ll automate to get rid of employees. And that’s where we are heading folks. Sorry to be pessimistic. We’ve been operating since the beginning of the pandemic with around half staff. We’ve had blips where staffing goes up, but then high turn over. The great resignation (and now “Lay Down” )and the attitude that conveys, is affecting everyone. And will continue to push up inflation! Me and my core staff are very very tired. We stayed open (albeit short staffed) the entire pandemic, and things aren’t getting any better, if anything they are worse.  If you know of someone RELIABLE looking for a job that requires focus and attention, please ask them to send a resume to info@violettegf.com. We pay well and have health/dental benefits, matching 401K and paid time off.

Pot pies are coming to an END. We have a few small chicken left and then some veggie and some vegan. Stock up. We make them Christmas to Easter.
