Mother’s Day Ideas

Mother’s should be celebrated, even during a pandemic. Even if your mother was a rotten tomato of a mom, she gave you life so that’s something to thank her for. While of course, Mom would love to gobble our yummy strawberry shortcake, here are some other ideas she might like (that would also help the local economy–ditch the Amazon gift, please!)

Joie De Vivre, is two doors down and has loads of great things for mom. While they have many funny gifts, they also have some lovely items as well. Here are two of my favs that i’ve bought there, and I believe they have some similar (birds are one of a kind) left. I love drinking my morning tea in that mug. And a Violette muffin tastes even better on that plate. They are taking phone orders and normally ship, but if you have placed an order with us for Friday or Sat pick up or delivery, I can ask Linda if she can deliver your prepaid item to us for you to pick up/get delivered with your food.

Mom might also love a gift certificate or Dinner from our next door neighbor Chalawan. Look at the excellent review they got!   They have a gluten free menu. As a bonus, they will deliver your order from us as part of your dinner or lunch delivery order. (Note they only deliver within 2 miles of the bakery, and we need 48 hrs notice of prepayment for orders from us!) We’d much rather you bought lunch/dinner at Chalawan than pay our delivery fees!

If your Mom is a gluten lover, Upper Crust is it. I have celiac, so have never had their pizza, but staff reports its very good. They are two doors down. They have delivery too.

Lastly, for those of you who aren’t on a budget, there is Daniel R. Spirer Jewelers  a few doors down. I love ogling the eye candy he has in his display windows. They are fully online now. They have  been helping the greater Boston community celebrate Mother’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, weddings and special events of all kinds for over 30 years. They are selling via online or phone orders. And they are donating 10% of your purchase to the charity of your choice. Your help will make a difference.

By supporting our neighbors you help support the larger community, including our landlord. Most of the businesses in our building are closed and some can’t pay rent. Our landlord owns one of the few remaining low rise affordable commercial buildings. Increasingly, these buildings are being torn down to build modern high rises with housing and commercial space that small businesses can’t afford. The character of your neighborhood is at stake in these trying times, so please, please, please ditch Amazon and buy local. Thank you.
