We’ve had loads of questions about our baking class in France.
1. How do I get to St Bresson?
From the USA, it’s typically the same price to fly all the way to Montpellier (MPL) as it is to go to Paris. MPL is a major regional hub, with direct flights from many cities in Europe, including Paris.
You can also fly into Barcelona, and take a 2.5 hr train to Montpellier.
We will have a van and driver available to pick people up at the airport in two trips on Sunday June 29 and Sunday July 6th. The cost is €75 each way to be paid in cash once you arrive.
2. Does the price include housing and food?
Yes! It includes everything except your transportation to the venue, and one lunch when we will be at an open air market. The early bird special is $2500. Last year we were well past the 20 student slots we have this year by December 9th. I think we had two slots left by early Dec, and the class size was 30! After 12/9 the price is $2800.
3. Why this Village? Why not somewhere more central?
Someone told me today that the Gluten Free cruise in Germany is over €6000 (US$6500). (No class) Classes like this normally start at $5K or more. I’m able to greatly reduce costs by holding in this village, where i’ve owned a house for over 20 years. The villagers know and trust me. I can use the village facilities as a home owner, and i have people I know who are caterers, cleaners, drivers and so on. Plus with the classroom being about 100 feet from my house, i can bring my Italian oven to use in the class. As well as all the GF cooking apparatus we need, stored at my house. By having it in St Bresson, a charming village in the Occitanie, one of the premier wine regions of France, I can keep the costs to half of what they ordinarily would be!
4. Is there Air-conditioning?
Air-conditioning isn’t common in Europe outside of Tourist hotels. The walls of the homes in St Bresson are a meter thick — all stone. The village is stone and surrounded by forests. Early July is not typically that hot, although, with the Climate Emergency, who knows what is typical anymore. There is an upscale hotel about a 25 minute drive from the village, if someone would rather stay there. Please let me know if you are interested in that option.
5. Are there King Size beds?
King size beds are also not a thing in Europe, outside of tourist hotels. No one complained about their bed during the last class. With plus ones we had over 40 people. I would have heard if there was a problem!
6. Are there laundry facilities?
There are no laundry facilities. Please pack for a week!
