The economy is grinding down small businesses 🥲

You may have read that small food businesses ,and airlines have been down 25% or more since Feb. We can tell you this is indeed a true fact.  While we understand that everyone is afraid, if we don’t PRIORITIZE spending money with small local businesses, when this is over, you will only be able to buy from oligarchs. Big business can survive a big loss. Small businesses can’t. 25% lower sales cuts into  rent and payroll.  And yes i realize the oligarchs charge less for their products because they have the funds to reach economies of scale. But then as we saw during the pandemic, they also  get greedy and price gouge, when they can. If small businesses are largely wiped out, and less competition exists, the oligarch’s prices will go up because their operating principle is greed.

We haven’t raised our prices in the past year or more, except for chocolate items because chocolate prices rose 200% this year. Partly due to crop failure in Madagascar (one of the countries hit with the HIGHEST tariffs by Trump) and partly because of  market greed. (Madagascar is only one of many places that produce chocolate.) We try to run our business as ethically as possible, from using the best quality ingredients, and earth friendly consumables, to keeping prices stable because we know that people who need GF food,  don’t have unlimited  budgets. Our margins are simply too thin at the moment to have fewer sales. So please consider that next time you click on Amazon or plan to run to Wholefoods, Can you  instead source from a small business, even if it means buying fewer items overall to stay in your budget?

Cash Sales

There has been a lot of talk about not feeding the oligarchs  consolidation of wealth, and ways to pull away. Encouraging cash sales instead of credit card charges is one way to do that. So we are raising our prices across the board by 2%. And then giving a discount of 3% for cash sales. Starting by the end of this week. Cash discounting is permitted in all 50 states. If you don’t want to pay cash, we are totally cool with that, but you will be paying 2% more than you do now.  We pay over 3% in credit card charges and fees.

We can get through these scary times if we keep our sights on the future we want. If we want diverse, high quality small producers, we ALL have to make sure we consciously work to keep them in business.  .

Saturday Special

SCONES !  Our scones are actually one of my favorite items at the bakery. I was married to a Brit and scones were part of our daily life, and i just love them. That’s why i developed super tasty GF ones. They freeze well. Pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds and it’s like they just came out of the oven. This week they are Cherry, Blueberry, and Chocolate Hazelnut!

My other favorite thing is our BAGEL SANDWICHES. I eat one EVERY SAT. Jala is a master at developing awesome sandwich flavors. Come on in. And have a bagel sandwich while you are at it. We have a monthly rooster of rotating sandwich flavors, Dairy, DF and vegan!

Weekly Bread

This week it is Sourdough (Vegan) and Challah (DF). Did you know our  Sourdough Starter is  17 years old? The older the starter the better the flavor. And the more moist the bread.  Stock up on our slow rise bagels. This is the ONLY week of the month to stock up on bagels. Don’t miss out. A

Pot Pies!

Pot Pies are available Christmas to Easter.  So that means you have another month or so to stock up on Pot pies. They come frozen ready to bake.  We have Small (personal) or Medium   (man size or for 2 lighter eaters). They come in Chicken and Veg, Veg and Vegan. All are DF. The difference between Veg and Vegan is the egg in the crust. All chicken is organic free range, and a combo of thigh and breast meat. The veggies, broccoli, carrots, green beans, peas, possibly corn, yellow potatoes and sweet potatoes, are all organic.
