What’s Baking, Week of March 23rd

Happy Spring. Time flies, doesn’t it? I’m in my happy place because i’m busy growing around 400 seedlings and getting my Green roof ready for planting. I’m a bit obsessed with plants I must admit. Every morning I go and check on all the seedlings. They are in various stages: some haven’t even been planted yet, some are planted but haven’t germinated, some have germinated with baby leaves, others are getting their first real leaves, and still others are BIG (ok, i planted them a little early.) I notice the nano bud that pops out of the ground. Every morning i check each one to see who has germinated, who  needs water, who has grown too close to the lights and needs to be moved around. These plants are LOVED for sure. I will be very popular with my gardening neighbors because i’ll likely have extra plants to give out (but only to good homes that i know will take care of them!)

EASTER IS IN TWO WEEKS! Please pre-order for Easter if you can. We’ve been having the darnedest time with our suppliers running out of basics. Easter is a busy holiday, so help us by preordering (so we can preorder supplies!). That’s the only way to guarantee your choices. This past year people wait until the last minute and then realize they do in fact want to celebrate  (insert holiday) and then we get smashed and often can’t accommodate everyone’s choices. Be like me, plan ahead!! Lol And we added FRENCH ONION SOUP to the Easter Menu. It will come with soup and on the side sourdough bread slices plus cheese to heat at home.

On the Easter score, we will have VEGAN BUNNY Sugar Cookies and will be donating the proceeds of these cookies to Save the Buns, a non-profit who educates regarding animal testing, and rehouses bunnies who have been experimented on and who would otherwise be euthanized.  If you want to learn more or make a donation yourself, please see https://www.savethebuns.org. All living creatures deserve to be treated with love and compassion. And on that score, please don’t buy bunnies for Easter unless you are making a life long commitment thru thick and thin to that bunny. Thank you.

We have a new seasonal pizza! Smoked Gouda and Mozzarella with mushrooms, spinach, caramelized onions and white sauce. The Vegan version has our house made smoked almond cheese. This was a customer favorite last year!

The Bread this week is Sourdough (vegan),  Loaves or rolls and Teff, loaves and rolls (DF).

Tea Bread (DF) is Lemon Poppy, plain or with crystalized ginger.   Muffins (DF) are Banana nut and Banana Chocolate Chip, and Blueberry Coconut, plain or with crystalized ginger.

Soup: Cream of Broccoli (vegan). We flew thru the African Carrot-Peanut soup (vegan) and i hope to make more this week. Soup’s On until about May. I’ve been eating the Carrot-Peanut soup for breakfast!

The Sat special is Cinnamon Buns, plain or with Maple Pecan. (DF).
