It’s Mother’s Day and Donut Day all in one weekend! To celebrate Mother, we are going to have strawberry shortcake. Now, you would think that was a simple thing to say, but when we discussed it in the kitchen, we all had different memories of what “shortcake” is made from. In my experience as a child growing up in Los Angeles, it was a biscuit/scone like confection. Danielle, our baker, insists it is sponge cake. Emily says it’s more like vanilla cake. Danielle and I prevailed and we are making both our preferences. We are making individual ones with the biscuit-like shortcake. And we will make cakes (sm, med, lg) out of sponge. We had them for Easter — they looked like a naked cake and had a drizzle of chocolate on them, and they went fast! (Sorry, i forgot to get photos). It you want the cake version, it’s best to preorder that as the extras we made for the store went in a nano-second. You can order with whipped cream or with our DF version.
Other treats for MOM are the angel food cupcake with lemon curd center and rose cream on top. Or Chocolate Eclairs. Emily made some absolutely AWESOME Rhubarb jelly. I don’t even like jelly, and I LOVE this. The taste (a bit tart) and texture (extra creamy smooth) are perfect. If you want some just write it in the message section of your order.
Donuts are Cinnamon-Sugar, Chocolate glazed, and glazed. (Not growing up as a donut eater, I just googled the most popular donuts and that’s the line up I got, followed by strawberry glazed, thanks to the Simpsons). If you have a favorite donut you can give us a shout out for next time. We highly recommend you pre order donuts, as no matter how many we make they go fast. Zoom, and they are gone. We will do delivery on Sat this week, to accommodate those who want donuts. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ “DELIVERY” PAGE ON OUR WEBSITE FOR MINIMUMS, ETC. We have gotten requests to deliver One cupcake (no, sorry) and we don’t want a slew of orders for delivery of one or even a couple, donuts. Thank you in advance for considering our sanity regarding this. And remember, we have a minimum of $15 for preorders. No minimum at the window. And no same day orders, please.
Tea bread this week is Blackberry-Orange, plain or with pecans. Muffins are Banana-peanut butter, plain or with chocolate chips. Bread is sourdough, plain or with black olives and Challah bread.
Is anyone else hankering for soup? I’m thinking of making Cream of Broccoli soup because after a hard day at work, that’s what I want to eat. Soup. Just wondering if I should get a whole case of organic broccoli or just enough for us here at the bakery?
Here is our grocery list for the week. We plan based on what suppliers tell us they have, and then sometimes they run out. 🤷♀️ Please remember, grocery items don’t count toward delivery minimums. Thanks.

They are up the street from us, and we are delivering their items to our customers (as an Add ON to order, not counting toward our minimums) as a courtesy. They need a little LOVE in these trying times. My favorites are her Golden Milk Smoothie and the Pear Cardamon granola.
Also, if you are hankering for some Asian take out food our next door neighbor, Chalawan, has a GF menu. I haven’t eaten there since they rebranded, but its the same owners and the staff and I have eaten from their old menu lots of times. They too, need a little LOVE these days.
