Reopening with some Menu changes
Reopen, Weds, Jan 11th. Pot Pies (small and medium) have been added to the menu! We will have them until approximately May (depends on the weather.)
We’ve added Slim Mint cookies and gone back to the Round Ginger cookies with candied ginger.
We’ve eliminated several items. Pumpkin Bundtlettes, ALL Pastry (except one Saturday a month), carrot cake (we will bring it back in the Spring). We have a few pies left and then Pie season is over until June with exception of Pie Day. We will soon be changing the seasonal pizza.
Sweet and Savory Brioche, Pop Tarts, Pastry and Donuts/Apple Fritters are on the Saturday Special Menu. Bagels and our No Rice No Millet, Hearty Sourdough is on menu as well.
Store Changes
After some hard soul searching, we are forced to revamp somewhat how we do business. Many businesses have drastically cut their hours, with cafe and coffee shops (and doctors offices!) in particular closing mid day or early evening now, when they used to stay open until 10 or later. Others are simply closing. Staffing woes are driving these changes.
During the pandemic we were able to manage with only 60% of our staff because mostly we had preorders. So we could be efficient in what we made. This last year and half has been extremely hard in terms of staffing, with many young people working a day, a week, 3 weeks, 2 months and then quitting. And the resumes we get show that pattern with their other jobs, or that they haven’t worked in years. And even when they are working, it takes 2-3 new staff to do the job of one. Our biggest cost element is staffing, and this turn over and lack of work skills is killing us financially. As well as killing my health, as I attempt to do all jobs in the bakery to make up for inadequate staffing. So, we’ve decided to make some hard changes. Like many businesses today, we are trying to revamp how we do things to minimize our need for good employees (I have 3 doctors who no longer have receptionists!) As a consequence, customers will be limited in what they can buy without preordering.
Having Customers Preorder is our Goal
At the window, the only things one will be able to buy is cupcakes, cookies, bread, savories and Saturday Specials. Some items, like pastry, will only be available one Saturday a month, or for large catering orders. Many cookies at the window will come pre-packaged in larger quantities.
With a much smaller window footprint, we are going to try to revamp the front area so that customers can come inside (albeit, probably only 2+ at a time.) That way customers can go back to choosing what they want from our self serve Savory freezer. Stay tuned for this.
Changed Days/Hours
We are also going to be closed on Tuesdays until the end of January, when our college student employee returns. We may also have to cut hours as well, as we have very limited staff for the front of the house. One college student who works summers and vacations for us, who will be leaving at the end of the month, when a local college student will be returning. And me. And I also bake and run the business side of things. As well as have some significant health issues. So if we can’t manage, we will cut our hours that we are open, although preorders will be able to be picked up until 6 pm weekdays.
Deadlines:
Deliveries are Thursday – Sat. If you want a delivery on Weds, please email us so we can ask the driver.
