You can order here.

TWO + weeks until Thanksgiving. Please get your PREORDERS in for best choice. ALSO, it is DONUT DAY on Saturday!

I can’t repeat it enough, we have to put in our last supply order for Thanksgiving THIS week. We order based on orders we have and our projections of what else will come in. We never get it right! That’s common in food sales. Customers change their preferences. Every year we are short different pies. So, if you want what you want, please get your order in soon. Otherwise, you will get what we have left.

Apple pie is the front runner so far. We rarely have Apple pies left. Because we don’t want to get stuck with zillions of apples if our prediction is wrong. So we under predict Apple pie. Just saying. . .

Also, if you want bread for stuffing, YOU MUST buy it in the next two weeks.  We can’t accept  large orders of bread Tuesday and Weds of Thanksgiving week. There are too many bread orders to accommodate your stuffing needs then. Consider a combo of challah (DF) and sourdough (vegan) and chopping it up and letting it stale for at least a week. Before using.

Thanksgiving week we are open Monday 11-6, Tuesday 11-6 and Weds 9-3.As usual, we are closed from Thanksgiving Day until Nov 29th, so that all staff can travel home if they want. Thanksgiving orders can be picked up as early as Sat, Nov 18th.

Saturday Special

Sat Special this week is DONUTS: Boston Cream, Cinnamon Sugar, Cookie-Dough and Salted Caramel Glazed. Our Donuts freeze  well, so stock up.

VEGAN DONUTS MUST BE PREORDERED. WE DON’T SELL THEM AT THE WINDOW.

Bread

In our dedicated gluten free bakery, this week and all month we will have sourdough (vegan) and challah (DF). This combo makes excellent stuffing. However, We repeat, you must buy it in advance. We will not accept large orders for bread Tues and Weds of Thanksgiving week. Please buy it in the next 2 weeks (its better to let it stale for a week or so anyway. ) Latest pick up of bulk order of bread is Monday, Nov 20th. And then remember, we are closed for a week after Thanksgiving!

The Al-Smadi Family Fundraiser

We are still about $5K shy of the minimum we need to bring this extended family of 8 to the US through Welcome Corps sponsorship. BTW, Zenab  (24) is on the left and is the one with kidney failure.

To help get us over that hump, we are offering ONE-on-ONE baking with Leesteffy, the owner (and possibly Danielle, the Head Baker, depending on what you want to learn.) You will get your choice of 4 items to learn  (a few items on our menu excluded). OR can choose 2 of your favorite gluten recipes that you want converted to GF. Sometimes conversion can take 10-15 rounds of trying, and that’s why we limit it to 2. For instance, a few years ago I helped someone convert Malmoud cookies and it took us 11 iterations to get it perfect. But in the end, the woman’s husband told her they were better than gluten ones they bought at the middle eastern store. We don’t do Croissants or the like.

The terms:  you raise $1K in tax deductible donations. Please note, you can’t donate for yourself and then get the baking prize. IRS rules prohibit tax deductible donations in this instance.  You can pay $1K, but you can’t get a tax deduction for it. I’m structuring it this way so that even if you are of modest income, you can still do it, if you get out there and nag your friends, family, and colleagues for donations. It’s a lot of work, trust me, but worth it. We are limiting this offer to 3 people, all of whom will have their own sessions. The number of baking sessions will depend on what you are learning/want converted. I believe the woman making Malmoud cookies came to the store 3 times to get the recipe perfect.  This offer is for HOME BAKERS ONLY. No one with commercial intent is eligible.

Items the Al-Samdi Family will Need (thinking into the future)

In addition to money, the immediate need is a place to store donations for the family. A garage, basement, or the like. The family can each bring one suitcase. So all will need clothing. The kids are Jouri (f) 8, Jawad (m) 6, Massa (f) 1.3 yrs old and Ryan (m) newborn. The parents Ghater 31 and Ragda 25, and the two nieces, Rasha 26 and Zenab 24, will all need clothing as well.

Currently they live in a one room house, where the only furniture is a rug and  rolled mattresses to sleep and eat on — so we won’t be collecting an abundance of furniture, as we don’t want to overwhelm them. For instance, we will likely find one set of furniture for living and dinning. A comfortable low coach, and low chairs or pillows to sit on, a rug and a large coffee table for them to have their meals around, rather than a dinning room set. And then beds (the kids may choose to sleep together) and storage for clothing. So not a lot of furniture will be collected, but we’d rather be able to take appropriate pieces as found/offered, rather than scrambling and paying for furniture at the last minute.

Calling all Cyclists.

The family would love bikes! Dad, Jouri , Massa and the two nieces Rasha and Zenab  would ALL LOVE biking lessons and bikes. Bikes are a luxury where they live. Only Jouri knows how to ride a bike. Mom (Raghda) is afraid of riding a bike, so maybe a 2 person bike would be good for this family, so Mom can enjoy as well.

Jawad needs a wheelchair. Eventually, as the family is plugged into the cerebral palsy medical community here, i’m sure Jawad will be able to get a wheel chair tailored to his special needs, but when they arrive at the airport, they will need a wheelchair, hand push or electric.  At the moment, Mom or Dad carries him everywhere, which puts a lot of stress on the family. This means 8 year old Jouri has to help carry toddler Massa and baby Ryan, if they go out to shop for food while Dad and the nieces are at work. Jawad can’t be left alone.  So they need a wheelchair for arrival. And a double stroller would also probably help. (Doesn’t your life sound so easy now?)
